Help keep your playful pet running, jumping and playing comfortably with dog nail clippers and files from PetSmart. When your furry best friend’s nails become overgrown, they can be uncomfortable for them, or can even cause painful splitting or breaking. I definitely feel safer using this to grind away small amounts of nail than clipping and causing an accident.Even dogs need a little mani/pedi every now and then! Help keep your pup’s nails in great shape with PetSmart’s selection of dog nail clippers, grinders, trimmers and files. I was previously using a rotary tool, but this one seems to work safer and faster. I also used this on my small parrot's beak and nails. Overall though, using this is easier and safer than a rotary tool or something similar since it the grinder part is covered up on spots. The only drawbacks I can think of is the smell as others have mentioned, almost smells like burnt hair as the nail grinds away and that the battery is fully enclosed so it's not easily replaceable. I really like the top and side areas for different angle options of using this. However, if you apply a light pressure while being firm enough on the nail, the grinder works really well. I found that if applying too much pressure, the grinder doesn't seem to work that well and even stops. I took the suggestion of doing one paw per day so that he gets used to it and I was able to do all 4 of his paws over 4 days. I wanted to wait a bit until writing this review since I wasn't sure if our dog would be okay with using this to trim his nails. It is quiet, and powerful enough for even the thickest dog nails. Overall, this tool met and exceeded my expectations. This is a big advantage over most dremel bits that are open at the top to accommodate the screw that holds the bit in. It does make up for this in some ways though by the fact that the top of the grinding bit is a dome and still has grit on it so you can use the top of the bit to grind also. In this same regard, I wish this grinding bit itself was a bit slimmer so it can be maneuvered more easily on the inside toes The dremel tool tapers to a metal shaft towards the top just past the handle and that allows the top of the tool to be thinner and more maneuverable, whereas this tool stays thick all the way to the grinding bit so it is chunkier and a little more awkward, especially for the inside toes. I only have a couple of complaints and they are minor. It also lasted for an entire 9 hour shift without needing a recharge, which was awesome because we are constantly having to plug the dremels in to the wall multiple times a day. I kept thinking it wasn't on because I couldn't hear it even though the nails were being ground easily, and even smoother than the dremel. It is so quiet that the power is deceiving. I got this product and immediately used it at my job the next day,Īnd I must say it works great! Even for the strongest and thickest nails like Labs. We see about 20 dogs per day of all different sizes, from chihuahuas to shepherds and 100 plus pound corsos. I was getting frustrated because the dremels are too loud and way too aggressive for most dogs, even though they do work. I work for a professional groomer and we use dremels to grind the dog's nails.
